Welcome to Cutting Edge Sports Nutrition

Are you been searching for the best approach to sports nutrition? Have you tried various plans but still feel like you haven’t found the best route to eliminating fatigue, aging, or nagging injuries?
Most importantly, do you feel you know a sports nutrition plan that is sustainable for the long run and helps you compete to your very highest level? Fortunately, if you’re still searching, you have come to the right place. A Functional Sport Nutrition approach that focuses on a clean-eating, individualized, whole-food approach is the end-all, be-all for both athletes and non-athletes. How could there be anything better?
The Search is Over for the Best Approach to Nutrition
OK, so there’s a pretty good chance you’re here because you want to feel and perform to the very best of your ability. You’re trying your best but you feel like you haven’t quite reached your fullest potential.
Maybe you’ve been plagued with fatigued and gut issues for years and you’re trying to muster the courage to exercise again. Perhaps you are an elite athlete searching for that 1% to achieve your next personal record.
It doesn’t matter if your ultimate goal is the Olympics or a brisk walk around the block without stopping, either way, you’ve come to the right place.
I have a feeling that you’re here because you realize proper nutrition plays a MAJOR role in the journey of optimal human health, no matter what end of the spectrum you fall under.
Well, you are correct. Congrats on this realization my friend. Your life is about to change for the better.
Perhaps you have already implemented changes to your diet in an attempt to improve your health or performance. I applaud your efforts but I have a feeling you are not quite yet at the end of your road. If I could give you one piece of advice, it is this:
Never stop searching for answers. Always thirst for knowledge when it comes to your body and the way that it operates. Do not settle when it comes to your personal level of energy and performance.
Why do I say this? Because no two individuals are a like. Your immune system is as unique as your thumbprint. Therefore, many of the cookie cutter nutrition recommendations out there are not applicable to most people! Just because a research article or two has proven a certain dietary guideline to be beneficial or accurate does not mean that it will be beneficial or accurate for you.
Are you constantly tired? Have trouble getting through workouts or daily activities that were once a breeze?
Trust me, it’s not aging.
Does your stomach, joints, muscles or head and sinus always give you trouble?
Surprise! We can no longer blame this entirely on genetics.
We are discovering so much more in the world of nutrition today that we never knew or truly understood until recently. This is so exciting, but we still have a long way to go.
As a functionally trained dietitian, I have learned so much over the years and I want you to be at the forefront of this journey with me.
Alright, now I really want you to dig deep and think about what you hope to accomplish together. If I could wave a magic wand and make all of your health and performance dreams come true, what would that look like?
Do you wish your nutrition strategy was more individualized to you and your specific energy demands? Are you looking for the latest edge in order to feel your best and win? To be able to train without experiencing extreme fatigue?
I’m with you. Lets do this!
A true student of the game never stops improving BUT what so many individuals fail to realize is that they could be taking their health to an entirely new level if their nutrition strategy is tailored to their unique biological makeup.
Listen to me loud and clear: You do NOT have to live with chronic illness, pain, or aggravating symptoms for the rest of your life.
You CAN exercise again without feeling exhausted or nauseous.
You CAN reach your goal weight without starving yourself.
You CAN qualify for the olympic trials, land that college scholarship, or be able to walk your first 5k without stopping.
It is all within your reach and I will tell you why…
Welcome to Functional Sports Nutrition
What if I told you there is another world of nutrition out there that encourages individuals to push beyond conventional nutrition recommendations that are generic and without an understanding of the individual.
An approach that teaches the concept of addressing the whole athlete, not just an isolated set of symptoms or complaints. Functional Sports Nutrition (FSN) is a method of practice that combines an advanced nutrition assessment grounded in a Functional Medicine based approach which gets to the root of how an individual’s body works in order to create personalized therapeutic interventions to reach optimal health and performance.
Lets Define Functional Sports Nutrition (FSN) In English
So, what exactly does that mean?
* FSN does not emphasize calorie counting but instead teaches athletes the importance of high-quality foods and phytonutrient diversity.
* FSN moves away from processed and refined foods such as cereals, sandwiches, and pasta. To achieve macronutrient goals, FSN instead encourages whole foods more easily digested and absorbed to improve body composition, energy, and recovery.
* FSN does not rely on generic or averaged-out statistics from large randomized controlled clinical trials for a one size fits all approach to every athlete. While incorporating the best research available, FSN studies each individual separately and works with each athlete to make unique recommendations to suits their biology best.
* FSN does not assume a well-balanced diet is enough for optimal performance. FSN goes more in-depth than traditional sports nutrition to analyze and address nutrient deficiencies, food sensitivities, autoimmune conditions, and gut health to ensure the athlete’s body is making appropriate use of those food choices.
All of this information may sound very strange, maybe even uncomfortable to you. I say this because I felt the exact same way early in my career. Years ago, I was the dietitian working at a world renowned hospital, recommending low-fat dairy and 6-11 servings of bread/pasta/cereal to everyone.
I did not believe in food sensitivities and I often told clients that vitamin and mineral supplementation was not necessary with a well-balanced diet. After all, this is what I was taught in school and it made sense, right?
Wrong!
Since then, I have coached over 5,000 individuals on making nutrition related changes as it relates to their past medical history, current symptoms, and future health and performance goals.
These individuals ranged from high school to professional athletes, with many weekend warriors sandwiched in between. And let it be known that the vast majority of these individuals were not your typical Sports Illustrated cover model, but instead, battling weight issues and chronic illness.
Thankfully I can say with great confidence that a Functional Nutrition approach is what brought the best results Every. Single.Time.
At the end of the day, it’s important to make sure you are familiar with the latest nutrition research as this is essential for laying the foundation for a large portion of the population.
However, when it comes to creating a nutrition strategy that works BEST for you and helps you to achieve your peak performance, whatever that might mean to you, it’s time to step outside the conventional nutrition box and dive head first into the wonderful world of Functional Sports Nutrition.
